Bobella Cobb was born in Sep 1847 in Caldwell Co., Kentucky.8,9,10 She married first John Bartlett Saunders, son of Reuben Saunders and Adeline S. Roberts, on 10 Nov 1870 in Paducah, McCracken Co., Kentucky. Her brother Joshua married his sister Manie the following year.11 She married second Barcley A. James on 25 Jun 1877 in Paducah, McCracken Co., Kentucky.12,13
She appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of District No. 1, Caldwell Co., Kentucky, in the household of her parents, Robert Livingston Cobb and Cornelia Barbour Mims.14,15 She appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Eddyville, Lyon Co., Kentucky, in the household of her parents.16,17 She appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Paducah, McCracken Co., Kentucky, in the household of her parents.18
Bobella Cobb and John Bartlett Saunders left for Hawaii following their wedding, arriving aboard the Moses Taylor on 26 Dec 1870. They went to the Islands hoping that it would improve his health.11
He died in mid-Aug 1873, and their second daughter was born shortly afterwards. Bobella returned to Paducah soon afterwards with her two young daughters and her Hawaiian nurse.19,20 At her husband's death the state owed him $900 in salary as traveling physician. That amount was paid to his account in Dec 1873, but she did not recover it for several years, and then reduced considerably by attorneys fees.21,22
Bobella and Barcley A. James appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Eddyville, Lyon Co., Kentucky, enumerated 1 Jun 1880. Their children Linah and Linda were listed as living with them, as were her daughters, Cornelia and Laura, by her previous marriage.23
Bobella and Barcley appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Evensville, Vanderburgh Co., Indiana, at 1448 Second St., enumerated 6 Jun 1900, reporting that the family owned its home. Their children Linah, Linda, Arney and Robert were listed as living with them, as were three Black servants, Mary Wilson, age 31, Mary Suggs, age 26, and Joseph Stokes, a hostler, age 38.24
Bobella appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Clarksville, Montgomery Co., Tennessee, in the household of her daughter Cornelia and her husband, Morris K. Clark.25 She appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Clarksville, Montgomery Co., Tennessee, in the household of her daughter Cornelia.26
