Joseph Lawrence Hall was born in Montgomery, Alabama.⁴
Joseph married Susan Morris Barker, daughter of Chiles Terrell Barker and Mary Louisa Hutchison, on 26 Apr 1887 Christian Co., Kentucky, in a double wedding with her twin sister, Frances. The wedding took place in their father's "elegant country home," "Glenburnie", and was officiated by Rev. Dr. Stringfellow, of Montgomery, Alabama, in the ritual of the Episcopal Church.^5,6
Joseph died in 1920.⁷
