     Luther Cave Scothorn was born on 10 Jan 1878 in Francisville, Boone Co., Kentucky.9,10,11
     He appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Petersburg, Boone Co., Kentucky, in the household of his parents, Charles Dimmick Scothorn and Sallie Louise Cave.4
     He was a farmer by 1900, apparently working on his father's farm.17
     He appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Bullittsville, Boone Co., Kentucky, in the household of his parents.5
     He soon after that became owner of a general store in Idlewild, Kentucky, where he sold everything from gasoline, clothes, dishes, coal oil, fencing and seeds, as well as groceries. He reported in 1940 he had worked 70 hours the last week of March, and 52 weeks the prior year, and in the 1950 census he had worked 60 hours the prior week.18,19,20,21,22,23,24
     He was appointed postmaster of Idlewild 28 May 1904, apparently operating the post office from his store. He remained postmaster until the post office was removed to Burlington 15 Jun 1910.25
     Luther married Johanna Marie Doering, daughter of William Caspar Doering and Wilhelmina Louise Wieman, on 21 Sep 1904 in Florence, Boone Co., Kentucky, at the Lutheran parsonage, with Rev. S. E. Slate officiating.12,13
     Luther and Johanna appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Bullittsville, Boone Co., Kentucky, enumerated 6 May 1910, reporting they rented their home. Their children Helen, Hazel and Walter were listed as living with them.26
     He also owned a 54 acre farm on Route 20 and Ashby Fork Rd.18 He registered for the draft for World War I on 12 Sep 1918, while living at Burlington, Boone Co., Kentucky, reporting he was employed as a self-employed farmer.3
     Luther and Johanna appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Pitersburg, Boone Co., Kentucky, on Burlington Rd., enumerated 10 Jan 1920, reporting they owned their home, free of mortgage. Their children Helen, Hazel, Walter and Roy were listed as living with them.21
     Luther and Johanna appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Petersburg, Boone Co., Kentucky, at Burlington and Petersburg Rd., enumerated 11 Apr 1930, reporting they owned their home, and owned a radio. Their children Helen, Walter, Roy and Ralph were listed as living with them.27
     Luther and Johanna appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Boone Co., Kentucky, at Highway 20 Between Idlewild and Petersburg, enumerated 8 Apr 1940, reporting they owned a home valued at $4,500, and that they had lived in the same house in 1935. Their children Helen, Roy and Ralph were listed as living with them.28
     Luther registered for the draft for World War II on 27 Apr 1942, while living at Burlington, Boone Co., Kentucky, reporting he was self-employed.29
     Luther and Johanna appeared on the 1950 Federal Census of Boone Co., Kentucky, enumerated 11 Apr 1950, reporting they lived on a farm. Their children Helen and Roy were listed as living with them.30
     Luther died on 25 Feb 1954 in Boone Co., Kentucky, at age 76.14 He was buried on 28 Feb 1954 in Petersburg Cemetery, Petersburg, Kentucky.15,16
