Narrative:

Verla E. Stumpf was born on 18 Oct 1918 in Missouri.8,9,10
She appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Washington, Tazewell Co., Illinois, in the household of her parents, George Henry Stumpf and Margaret Anne Oetzel.4 She appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Washington, Tazewell Co., Illinois, in the household of her parents.5
She was a sales woman at Block and Kuhl Co. in 120-126 S Adams, Peoria, a dry goods retailer selling clothing, furniture, books, and appliances. She was apparently still living at home in Washington Twp in 1938.14
Verla married Ira William Miller, son of Clayton W. Miller and Louise Schoch, on 14 Aug 1938 in Washington, Illinois.11,12,13
Verla and Ira appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Washington, Tazewell Co., Illinois, enumerated 12 Apr 1940, reporting they owned a home valued at $3,500, and had lived in the same town in 1935. Their son David was listed as living with them.15
Verla and Ira appeared on the 1950 Federal Census of Washington, Tazewell Co., Illinois, at 203 Lincoln St., enumerated 8 Apr 1950, reporting they lived in a home that was not on a farm. Their children David were listed as living with them.16
Her husband died on 23 Mar 1992 in 205 Lincoln St., Washington, Illinois.17
Verla moved to Oxford, Ohio, about 2003 to be with her daughter and son-in-law.18
Verla died on 7 May 2016 at age 97.8

Research Note, 8 Oct 2018:
Verla may have been adopted. She was apparently the only child of George and Margaret, and wasn't born until 11 years after they were married. The 1920, 1940 and 1950 censuses show her birth in Missouri while the 1930 census shows her birth in Kansas, but all evidence suggests George and Margaret never lived outside of Washington. Lee Pound, while visiting family members in the area in the 1967, was told George and Margaret had no children even though Verla and her husband were living in Washington. Her obituary makes no mention of her parents.19,20,21,22,23

Children:
     Children with Ira William Miller

Verla and Ira's other child is still living (Mar 2024).
