     Robert Emmett Cooper was born on 6 Feb 1864 in Christian Co., Kentucky.7,8,9
     He generally used his middle name, Emmett, as a child, apparently to avoid confusion with his father who was also named Robert. He seems to have contiued to be known by his middle name for much of his life.1,6,15
     He appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Lafayette, Christian Co., Kentucky, in the household of his parents, Robert James Cooper and Lucy Ann Ragdale.16 He appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Christian Co., Kentucky, in the household of his parents.5
     Robert married first Nellie Crider, daughter of J. E. Crider and Alice Wyatt, on 7 Jan 1890 in Fredonia, Caldwell Co., Kentucky, with Rev. M. E. Chappell officating.10,11
     Robert and Nellie appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Hopkinsville, Christian Co., Kentucky, at 112 Thirteenth St., enumerated 12 Jun 1900, reporting they owned their home, which was mortgaged. Also listed as living there were his mother, his brother William and his wife Bessie and their 3-year-old son Robert, and his brother Garland and his wife Stella McNeill.6
     Robert and Nellie appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Hopkinsville, Christian Co., Kentucky, at 116 West Thirteenth St., enumerated 19 Apr 1910, reporting they owned their home, free of mortgage. Also listed as living there were his mother, his brother William, and his wife Bessie and their son Robert and 9-year-old daughter Elizabeth.17
     Robert and Nellie appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Hopkinsville, Christian Co., Kentucky, at 1007 Main St., enumerated 16 Jan 1920, reporting they owned their home, free of mortgage. Also listed as living there were his mother; Emmit Crider Cooper, who was listed as a nephew at age 11; Emma J. Foster, his mother's sister; and three servants.18
     His wife died on 2 Jun 1927 in Hopkinsville, Christian Co., Kentucky.19
     Robert appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Hopkinsville, Christian Co., Kentucky, at 715 South Main St., enumerated 9 Apr 1930, reporting he owned a home valued at $2,500, and owned a radio. His mother's sister, Emma J. Foster, was also listed in the household.20
     Robert married second Sallie A. Tuck, daughter of Dr. Henry Davis Tuck and Elizabeth John A. Smith, between 1930 and 1935.12,13,14
     Robert and Sallie appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Hopkinsville, Christian Co., Kentucky, at 1715 South Main St., enumerated 22 Apr 1940, reporting that they owned a home valued at $12,000. Sallie Moody, a Black servant age 52 is recorded as living at the rear of the same address and appears to have been a servant to their household.21
     His primary occupation was a tobacconist, or operator of a retail shop selling tobacco products.6,22,15,3 In 1920 he reported he was a tobacco warehouseman. He seems to have invested in a different field by 1930, when he was the operator of a coal and fluorspar mine.23,24
     Robert died on 20 Sep 1946 in 1715 South Main St., Hopkinsville, Christian Co., Kentucky, at age 82, his home.3 He was buried on 23 Sep 1946 in Hopkinsville, Kentucky.3
