     Alston registered for the draft for World War I on 5 Jun 1917, while living at Martinsburg, West Virginia, reporting he was employed as a farmer by his father.20
     Alston was in the U.S. Army in World War I, enlisting 4 Mar 1918.21
     Alston married Mary Gladys R. Flora, daughter of Edward K. Flora and Mary Arizona Wellen, on 17 Jul 1918 in Hagerstown, Washington Co., Maryland, with Rev. J. R. Gaar officiating.12,13,14
