     Bettie Leigh Canada was born on 12 May 1868 in Halifax Co., Virginia.8,9,10
     She appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Roanoke, Halifax Co., Virginia, in the household of her mother, Ellen Pocahontas Morgan. Her father, Henry Harrison Canada, was enumerated the same day, 13 households away. It would appear they are living separately, but it may have been an error by the enumerator.14,15
     She appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Roanoke, Halifax Co., Virginia, in the household of her parents, Henry Harrison Canada and Ellen Pocahontas Morgan.4
     Bettie married Henry Lacy Britton, son of William Edward Britton and Frances A. Buster, about 1888 in Staunton Hill, Halifax Co., Virginia.11,12,13
     Bettie and Henry appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Danville, Virginia, at 512 Peach St., enumerated 4 Jun 1900, reporting they rented their home. Their children Annie, Henry, Bettie, Sarah and Mable were listed as living with them, as was Kenneth Thornton, a locomotive fireman, who was listed as a boarder.16
     Bettie and Henry appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Danville, Danville Co., Virginia, at 414 Plum St., enumerated 23 Apr 1910, reporting they rented their home. Their children Henry, Bettie, Sarah, Mable, Cecille and Hughes were listed as living with them, as were J. B. and H. I. Lester, both railroad brakemen, who were listed as boarders.17

Her daughters Annie and Mable, Annie's daughter Marion, Mabel's husband Richard Owen, and their children Richard and Mary, were listed as living with her.21
     Bettie died on 24 Jun 1940 in Richmond, Virginia, at age 72.5 She was buried on 26 Jun 1940 in Riverview Cemetery, Richmond, Virginia.5
