     Adam Vaubel was born on 22 May 1843 in Hesse-Darmstadt.5,6,7,8 Adam immigrated to the United States in 1865.18,19
     Adam married first Martha Ficht on 12 Nov 1868 in Tazewell Co., Illinois, with Rev. A. S. Heilman officating.9,10,11
     Adam and Martha appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Fon du Lac Twp., Tazewell Co., Illinois, enumerated 28 Jul 1870, reporting real estate valued at $3,000 and personal estate of $300. Their daughter Mary was listed as living with them.1
     His wife died on 10 Mar 1876.20
     Adam married second Mary Ebert, daughter of Michael Ebert and Rosina Zechler, about 1876.12,13,14
     Adam and Mary appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Fon du Lac, Tazewell Co., Illinois, enumerated 2 Jul 1880. Their son Edward was listed as living with them, as were his daughters by his first marriage, Mary and Helene.2
     He was a farmer.21,2,22,23 The 1880 census provides a snapshot of his farm in Fon du Lac Twp. He owned the farm, which was valued at $6,000, with $200 worth of implements. He had 100 acres of tilled land and 60 acres of woodlands. He reported the value of his production the prior year as $1,100. He had mowed 10 acres the prior year, yielding 26 tons of hay, and produced 18 bushels of clover seed. He assigned no value to livestock, but reported 4 horses and 2 mules, 8 "milch cows," from which he had produced 400 lb. of butter the prior year. There were 4 other cattle, had 5 calves dropped the prior year, sold 5 cattle living and slaughtered one. He had 17 swine and 40 poultry. His crops in 1879 had included 28 acres of Indian corn yielding 1,100 bushels, 8 acres of oats yielding 200 bushels, 6 acres of rye yielding 70 bushels, 24 acres of wheat yielding 640 bushels, and half an acre of potatoes yielding 60 bushels. A one-acre apple orchard, with 50 trees, had yielded 30 bushels valued at $8. He reported he had spent $50 on fence repair and nothing on fertilizer in the prior year, but had paid $200, including board, for hired labor for 52 weeks of work.24
     Adam and Mary appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Fon du Lac Twp., Tazewell Co., Illinois, enumerated 19 Jun 1900, reporting that they owned their farm, mortgage free. Their children Edward, Charles, Elsie and Sadie were listed as living with them.22
     Adam retired before 1910 and he and Mary moved to the town of Washington.25 They appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Washington, Tazewell Co., Illinois, on Pine, enumerated 25 Apr 1910, reporting that they owned their home, mortgage free. Their children Elsie and Sadie were listed as living with them.26
     Adam and Mary appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Washington, Tazewell Co., Illinois, enumerated 10 Jan 1920, reporting that they owned their home, mortgage free. Their daughter Sadie was listed as living with them.27
     Adam died on 30 Apr 1925 in Glendale Cemetery, Washington, Tazewell Co., Illinois, at age 81.15,16 He was buried in May 1925 in Washington Cemetery, Washington, Illinois.17
     His will was probated on 4 Jun 1925 in Tazewell Co. His real estate was valued at $51,000 and his personal property at $5,000.28
