Narrative:

Henry Ruppel was born on 11 Apr 1830 in Niederaula, Kurfuerstentum Hessen, (Electorate of Hesse.)5,6,7
Henry arrived in New York on 18 Apr 1851, aboard the Bremen Bark Bessel from Bremen, traveling in steerage class, with one case. He was later naturalized.14,15
Henry married Anna Gehla Berlet about 1851 in Illinois. His obituary claims they married in 1850, but he did not arrive in the U.S. until the following spring and she did not arrive with him. It appears they were married in Illinois after they immigrated.8,9,10
Henry and Anna moved to Livingston Co. in 1860, settling on a farm in Germanville Twp., south of Chatsworth. They lived there her death, and he moved in with a daughter.16 They appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Chatsworth Twp., Livingston Co., Illinois, enumerated 24 Aug 1860, reporting real estate valued at $500 and personal estate of $250. Their children Elizabeth and Christina were listed as living with them.2
Henry and Anna appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Chatsworth, Livingston Co., Illinois, enumerated 20 Jul 1870, reporting real estate valued at $5,000 and personal estate of $800. Their children Elizabeth, Christina, Mary, Anna and Adam were listed as living with them.17
Henry and Anna appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Germanville Twp., Livingston Co., Illinois, enumerated 1 Jun 1880. Their children Mary, Anna and Adam were listed as living with them, as was his father, Ernest Ruppel, and Henry Berlet, age 22, listed as a servant, but judging from his surname, likely a relative of Anna.4
Henry and Anna appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Germanville Twp., Livingston Co., Illinois, enumerated 18 Jun 1900, reporting the family owned its farm, mortgage free. Their daughter Elizabeth and her family were apparently living nearby, a they are listed as the preceding household.18
He reported his occupation as shoemaker when he arrived in New York, but took up farming when he moved to Illinois.19,20,17,4,18
His wife died on 23 Oct 1902 in Livingston Co., Illinois.21 Henry moved in with his daughter Anna and her husband, Sebastian Glabe. He appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Germanville Twp., Livingston Co., Illinois, in the household of Anna and Sebastian.18
Henry moved to the town of Chatsworth about 1911 and lived with eldest his daughter, Elizabeth, and her husband, an unknown person until his death a year later.22
Henry died on 24 Mar 1912 in Chatsworth, Livingston Co., Illinois, at age 81, at the home of his daughter Elizabeth.11,12 He was buried in Germantown Cemetery, Chatsworth, Livingston Co., Illinois.13
