Narrative:

     David Toot was born on 6 Jan 1756.5,6 He was baptized on 14 Jun 1761 in Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, York, Pennsylvania, with his siblings Catharine, George and Sophia.8
     He moved to Paxton Twp., Lancaster Co., with his parents, David Dutt, and Catherine Klingenmyer, about 1774.9,10
     The General Assembly of Pennsylvania directed on 13 Jun 1777 that all male inhabitants over age 18 subscribe to an oath renouncing all allegiances to Great Britain and pledging allegiance the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as a free and independent state. Hundreds of residents of Paxton Twp. did so before Joshua Elder, justice of the peace, including David and his brother Conrad, between 28 Jan and 20 Mar 1778, as their father already had.11
     David and his brother Conrad were serving in Capt. Jonathan McClure's company, 4th Battalion, Lancaster Co. Militia by Aug 1778. They were joined by their younger brother George by Apr 1781.12,13
     David died in 1788.7,3
     
Research Note, 19 Jan 2016:
The 1790 census of Dauphin Co., Pennsylvania, has a listing for Orshel Toot two entries before David's father's entry. It shows a household of only one female. This may be David's widow, but if so no other record has been found.14
