Narrative:

     Mary Kennel was born on 25 Dec 1854 in Morton, Illinois.6,7,8 She appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Morton Twp., Tazewell Co., Illinois, in the household of her parents, Jacob Kennel and Catherine Gerber.19 She appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Morton Twp., Tazewell Co., Illinois, in the household of her parents.19
     Mary married first Amos Ropp, son of Joseph Ropp and Catherine [surname unknown], on 8 Mar 1877 in Tazewell Co., Illinois.9,10,11
     Mary and Amos appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Morton Twp., Tazewell Co., Illinois, enumerated 3 Jun 1880. Their children Ida and Joseph were listed as living with them, as were two farm laborer, identified as servants, John Munson, age 18, from Denmark, and George Stitsly, age 60, from Sweden.20
     Her husband died in 1886.21
     Mary married second Conrad Portsheller about 1888.12,13,14
     Mary and Conrad and her children by her prior marriage, Ida, Joseph, Emanuel, Rudolph and Philip, moved to Kansas after their marriage. They appeared on the 1895 State Census of Learned, Pawnee Co., Kansas. Their son Raymond and her children by her prior marriage, Ida, Joseph, Emanuel, Rudolph and Philip, were listed as living with them.22
     Mary and Conrad returned to Tazewell Co., Illinois, before 1900 with their son Raymond and her children by her prior marriage, Joseph, Emanuel, Rudolph, Philip and Ida. They appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Morton Twp., Tazewell Co., Illinois, enumerated 12 Jun 1900, reporting that they were renting their farm. Their son Raymond and her sons by her prior marriage, Joseph, Emanuel, Rudolph and Philip, was listed as living with them.23
     Mary and Conrad appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Washington, Tazewell Co., Illinois, at Pine, reporting that they owned their home, free of mortgage. Their son Raymond was listed as living with them.24
     Her husband died on 28 Sep 1917 in Royal Center, Indiana.25,26
     Mary appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Washington, Tazewell Co., Illinois, enumerated 15 Jan 1920, reporting that she owned her home, free of mortgage. She was renting a part of it to Fred and Emma Gocker and their 9-year-old son.27
     Mary appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Washington, Tazewell Co., Illinois, on Pine, enumerated 9 Apr 1930, reporting that she owned a home valued at $5,000, and owned a radio. Her son Raymond was listed as living with her, as was his son, Elmer, age 9.28
     Mary appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Washington, Tazewell Co., Illinois, enumerated 1 May 1940, reporting that she owned a home valued at $3,000, and that she had lived in the same house in 1935. Her daughter Ida was listed as living with her.29
     Mary died on 31 Oct 1941 in Washington, Tazewell Co., Illinois, at age 86.15,16 She was buried on 3 Nov 1941 in Glendale Cemetery, Washington, Tazewell Co., Illinois.17,18
