     Philip Ropp was born on 15 Jan 1885 in Washington, Illinois.9,10,11
     His father died in 1886, when Philip was about one year old.22
     He moved to Kansas with his mother and stepfather, Conrad Portsheller, after her re-marriage. He appeared on the 1895 State Census of Learned, Pawnee Co., Kansas, in the household of household of his mother and stepfather.23
     He returned to Tazewell Co., Illinois, with his mother and stepfather before 1900. He appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Morton Twp., Tazewell Co., Illinois, in the household of his mother and stepfather.2
     Philip married Nellie E. Oetzel, daughter of Adam Oetzel and Caroline Glabe, on 20 Feb 1907 in Farmdale, Tazewell Co., Illinois, with Rev. Ferdinand W. Doede officiating.12,13,14
     Philip and Nellie moved to Indiana after their marriage. They appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Boone Twp., Cass Co., Indiana, enumerated 5 May 1910, reporting they rented their farm.24
     Philip and Nellie moved to to a farm in Michigan in Mar 1916.25
     He was a farmer all his working life.26,27,28,29,30,31 Philip registered for the draft for World War I on 12 Sep 1918, while living at Imlay, Lampeer Co., Michigan, reporting he was self-employed as a farmer in Goodland Twp. in the same county.3
     Philip and Nellie appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Imlay Twp., Lampeer Co., Michigan, enumerated 17 Jan 1920, reporting they owned their farm, which was mortgaged.32
     Philip and Nellie appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Imlay Twp., Lampeer Co., Michigan, enumerated 22 Apr 1930, reporting they owned their farm and owned a radio.33
     Philip and Nellie appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Imlay Twp., Lampeer Co., Michigan, enumerated 15 May 1940, reporting they owned a home valued at $1,500, and had lived in the same house in 1935. Also listed as living with them was a housekeeper, Laura Gerlach, a 47-year old widow.34
     Philip was granted a divorce from Nellie in Lapeer Co., Michigan, 16 May 1941. The grounds were extreme cruelty. She did not contest, and no alimony was granted.15,16
     Philip registered for the draft for World War II on 27 Apr 1942, while living at Imlay City, Michigan, reporting he was self employed.35
     Philip appeared on the 1950 Federal Census of Imlay Twp., Lapeer Co., Michigan, at 7006 Newark Rd., enumerated 1 Apr 1950, reporting he lived on a farm.36
     Philip moved to a nursing home in Morton, Illinois, about 1965.37
     Philip died on 14 Mar 1969 in Morton, Illinois, at age 84.17,18,19 He was buried on 17 Mar 1969 in Glendale Cemetery, Washington, Tazewell Co., Illinois.20,21
