Narrative:

William Davis Elliott Jr. was born on 31 Jul 1892 in Montgomery Co., Tennessee, near Edgoten, Kentucky.8,9,10
He appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Montgomery Co., Tennessee, in the household of his parents, William Davis Elliott and Carrie Jones.4 He appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Montgomery Co., Tennessee, in the household of his parents.5
After attending Battle Ground Academy and graduating from Clarksville High School, William graduated from Southwestern Presbyterian University, Clarksville. The university was on the site now occupied by Austin Peay State University. After several name changes and reorganizations, the school moved to Memphis in 1925 and is now known as Rhodes College.17
William married Amrelia Drane, daughter of Wesley Drane and Mary McRay, on 12 Oct 1916 in Nashville, Tennessee, in a quiet wedding in the study of Rev. J. W. Cherry.11,12
William registered for the draft for World War I on 5 Jun 1917, while living at Clarksville, Tennessee, reporting he was employed as by his father, on his farm near Edgoten, Kentucky. He claimed exemption from draft because he needed to tend to his invalid father's buiness.3 He was a farm manager, on his father's farm, in 1920.18
William and Amrelia Drane appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Montgomery Co., Tennessee, on State Line Rd, enumerated 5 Jan 1920. Their daughter Winifred was listed as living with them. His family apparently lived close by as they are listed next preceding.18
About 1925 he entered the "loosefloor" tobacco warehouse business, where loose (unbundled) tobacco leaves were sold. He was a partner in the firm of Brewer, Durrett & Ellott, which later became Brewer and Elliott. After the death of L. V. Brewer he continued to operate under that name. He also owned and operated a large farm, presumably the one previously owned by his father.17,19,20

William died on 29 Nov 1945 near Lafayette, Christian Co., Kentucky, at age 53, suffering a heart attack after hunting on his ranch near Edgoten and dying on the way to the doctor's office.13,14 He was buried on 1 Dec 1945 in Greenwood Cemetery, Clarksville, Montgomery Co., Tennessee.15,16
