Narrative:

Albert Allen Brown was born on 4 May 1886 in Elmwood, Illinois.8,9,10
He appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Farmington, Fulton Co., Illinois, in the household of his parents, James S. Brown and Anna M. Humphrey.5
Albert married first Edna Catherine Glabe, daughter of Jacob Glabe and Emma Amelia Goller, about 1906.11,12,13
Albert and Edna appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Peoria, Peoria Co., Illinois, at 601 Montana St., enumerated 27 Apr 1910, reporting they rented their home. Their children Marguerite and Evelyn were listed as living with them.20
Albert and Edna moved to Los Angeles Co., California about 1913, settling initially in Springdale, near Compton. His parents moved here about the same time. Albert registered for the draft for World War I on 12 Sep 1918, while living in Springdale, Los Angeles Co., California, reporting he was employed as a riveter at Los Angles Ship Building Co., San Pedro.2
Albert and Edna appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Compton, Los Angeles Co., California, on Springdale Ave., enumerated 15 Jan 1920, reporting they owned the home, which was mortgaged. Their children Marguerite, Evelyn, Stanley, Kenneth and Albert and a son believed to be still living were listed as living with them. His parents are listed immediately preceding, indicating they were living in the same house or close by.21 They also appeared on the same census of Compton, on Ruby St., enumerated 28 Jan 1920. The same children were listed as living with them and again they reported they owned their home. The dual listings suggest they had been living with his parents and were moving into a separate home.22
Albert and Edna appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Norwalk, Los Angeles Co., California, on Washburn Newton Rd, enumerated 16 Apr 1930, reporting they were renting their home. Their children Evelyn, Stanley, Kenneth, Albert and Howard and a son believed to be still living were listed as living with them, as was their eldest daughter Marguerite's two-year old daughter.23
Albert and Edna appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Los Angeles, Los Angeles Co., California, at 463 W. 37th Pl, enumerated 12 Apr 1940. They reported that they were renting their home for $30 per month and had lived in the same city in 1935. Their children Stanley, Kenneth, Albert, Howard and Patricia and a son believed to be still living were listed as living with them.24
He was a plastering contractor in Illinois in 1910. In 1920, in California, he was plastering houses working for someone else. By 1930 he had become a farmer, operating a nursery.25,26,27 He was again doing plastering, for a private contractor, by 1940. That year he reported working 40 hours the last week of March, and working 26 weeks the prior year, earning $1,000 in 1940.24 He reported in the 1950 census he had worked 48 hours the prior week. He also reported working 52 weeks in 1949, earning $6,000 in wages or salary.28
His wife died on 11 May 1943 in Los Angeles, California.29,30,31
Albert married second Margaretta E. Hill, daughter of Joe W. Hill and Mary Elnora Bishop. She was the widow of William David Matheson and Robert Gilmore Ainsworth. She had previously been married to Cecil Victor Schirmacher.14,15
Albert and Margaretta appeared on the 1950 Federal Census of Los Angeles, Los Angeles Co., California, at 1834 43rd St., enumerated 16 Apr 1950, reporting they lived in a home that was not on a farm. His son Albert was listed as living with them.32

Albert died on 24 Oct 1964 in Orange, Orange Co., California, at age 78.16,17,18 He was buried in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Glendale, Los Angeles Co., California, next to his first wife.19
