     William Theodore Shols was born on 14 Aug 1897 in Charlotte Twp., Illinois.9,10,11
     He appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Charlotte Twp., Livingston Co., Illinois, in the household of his parents, Erasmus Ross Shols and Louise Marie Wienand.4
     He moved to town with his parents between 1900 and 1910. He appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Chatsworth, Livingston Co., Illinois, in the household of his parents.5
     William was in the U.S. Army in World War I, enlisting 26 Jun 1918. He was discharged 25 Jun 1919.17,18
     He appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Fourth St., Chatsworth, Livingston Co., Illinois, in the household of his parents Erasmus Ross Shols and Louise Marie Wienand, reporting his occupation as a clerk in a clothing store.19
     William married Alice Serene Glabe, daughter of Sebastian Glabe and Anna Katherine Ruppel, on 6 Jun 1923 in Evangelical Church, Chatsworth, Livingston Co., Illinois. Rev. Edward George Vaubel of Downer's Grove, husband of her cousin Catherine Angelia Glabe, officiated. Alice was an older sister of the woman his brother Erasmus would marry three years later.12,13,14
     William studied at University of Illinois, Urbana, Illinois, and was to graduate in Feb 1924 as an electrical engineer, but apparently did not receive his degree.20,21
     William and Alice moved the suburbs of Chicago about 1925. They appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Maywood, Cook Co., Illinois, at 1908 S. 5th Ave., enumerated 5 Apr 1930, reporting they were renting their home, for $65 per month. Their children Claire and Glen were listed as living with them, as was her brother, Paul Sebastian Glabe. Also listed was Edward Allen, another electrical engineer, who was listed as a lodger.22
     William and Alice moved to Evanston between 1935 and 1940.23 They appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Evanston, Cook Co., Illinois, at 1215 Cleveland St., enumerated 28 May 1940, reporting that they were renting their home, for $40 per month, and had lived in Maywood in 1935. Their children Claire and Glen were listed as living with them.23
     William and Alice moved to Joliet by 1942, when they were living at 5 N. Hickory.24
     He was an electrical engineer in 1930, and reported he was a maintainer for a public utility in 1940. That year he reported he had worked 40 hours the last week of March, and 52 weeks the prior year, earning $2,200.25,23 He registered for the draft for World War II on 16 Feb 1942, while living at 5 N. Hickory St., Joliet, Will Co., Illinois, reporting he was employed by Public Service Company.3
     By 1948 William and Alice moved back to the Peoria area. In 1948 they were living at 211 Vincent Ave., Peoria Heights.26 By 1950 they moved in 524 Bradley Ave., in Peoria.27 They appeared on the 1950 Federal Census of Peoria, Peoria Co., Illinois, at 524 Bradley, enumerated 25 Apr 1950, reporting they lived in a home that was not on a farm.28
     In Peoria William operated Shols Skelgas and Appliances, at 220 Franklin. He reported in the 1950 census he had worked 46 hours the prior week. He seems to have disposed of the business after his wife's death.29,30 By 1956 they moved in 730 E. Corrington Ave.31
     His wife died on 3 Mar 1957 in Peoria, Illinois.32
     William moved back to Chatsworth after the death of his wife.33 He moved to Chico, California, where his son Glen was a practicing urologist, apparently not long before his death.34
     William died on 26 Aug 1978 in Chico, Butte Co., California, at age 81.15,16 He was buried on 30 Aug 1978 in Chatsworth Cemetery, Chatsworth, Illinois.6
